Learner's Approach

Many students dedicate countless hours to studying but still find themselves stuck at the Honors and High Honors levels. Although individual dedication is essential to success in the USNCO, students’ efforts can be ineffective without the right studying techniques. We will share the campers’ insight into how to study efficiently and effectively.

Exclusive Enrollment

Enrollment in this course is contingent on the student’s demonstration of excellence on the entrance exam. We will accept at most 10 students who are not past study camp participants. This rule ensures that the questions students ask in class and course pacing are appropriate for everyone.

Advanced Content

Strong fundamentals in Olympiad-level chemistry are expected of all participating students. The content portion of this course will focus on advanced concepts including, but not limited to, thermodynamics, applications of molecular orbital theory in bonding, and organic chemistry. Recurring topics from past USNCO exams will also be given a special emphasis.

Problem-Solving Emphasis

Problem-solving ability is what separates study camp qualifiers from the rest. We will teach you timing strategies and every little optimization to decrease your solve times. Much of the problem-solving portion in this course is dedicated to equilibrium problems, covering concepts like what assumptions you can and cannot make. We will also provide you with original practice worksheets and guidance on where to look for more practice. By the time you finish all 4 original mock exams in this course, you should not fear any problems on the USNCO exam.

Perfecting Part III

Although Part III is widely considered the easiest section of the national exam, many students will lose points from a lack of lab experience and improper writeups. We will teach you a step-by-step process for getting a perfect score on the laboratory portion of the national exam. This course will provide you with a list of high-yield labs using accessible lab materials.

Special Guarantee

We expect all of our students to make large strides in their progress after taking our course. If a student who has already achieved High Honors does not qualify for the USNCO Study Camp after taking this course, they are entitled to a half refund of their tuition. This guarantee is contingent on the student’s participation in all lectures and completion of all assignments on time.
